CFD calculations of NREL Phase VI rotor under wide range of operation conditions were conducted using FlowVision software. Computations were performed for various wind speeds with axial inflow, constant RPM and constant blade pitch. The rotation of the blades was modeled via different approaches; steady-state with frozen rotor using rotating reference frame and transient with moving boundaries or sliding surfaces. In addition to this, an ‘Overlapping Boundary Layer (OBL)’ was implemented to resolve the boundary layer for a selected case. Turbulence models ‘k-ε-AKN and k-ω Shear Stress Transport (SST) were used and compared. Except the OBL case, FlowVision wall function approximation was employed for all calculations with y+ values between 30 and 100.

Overall results were compared for all of the above-mentioned numerical approaches and showed good agreement with the experimental data. k-ω SST turbulence model is found to perform better to predict stall onset. The stall occurrence and general torque trend as a function of wind speed is fairly well captured. Comparisons of the static pressure distribution around blades with experimental data at different span-wise sections for different wind speeds are presented and good agreement is observed.

Two different complex problems arising during spacecraft design are discussed in this paper. One problem is a definition of impulse for a safety separation of a parachute container lid. Another problem is defining a shock-wave interaction on the spacecraft at turning on emergency rescue system. Both problem are very hard and expensive for solving by experimental methods, and RSC Energia gets here all benefits of numerical simulation by using CFD code FlowVision.

Feeder is one of the airships of the Multibody Advanced Airship for Transport (MAAT) system, under development within the EU FP7 project. MAAT is based on a modular concept composed of two different parts that have the possibility to join; respectively they are the so-called Cruiser and Feeder, designed on the lighter than air principle.

The brief for the boat, v-39 Albatross is to set a new world outright sailing speed record at Portland Harbor, UK by 2013. The boat is configured to add at least 10 knots to the current record by setting a speed above 65 knots (120 km/h). At speed the boat hulls will fly above the surface using a wing in ground effect. The pilot is able to sail on both port and starboard tack and can actively control the craft in speed, roll and height as well as direction.

At present time RSC Energia is carrying out research work on designing the reentry manned spacecraft of new generation to crew deliver, in-flight support and return. The spacecraft ought to take the place of Soyuz. Manned spacecraft Clipper having the reentry vehicle (RV) of lifting body type is a possible alternate solution (Fig. 1). In comparison with Soyuz suggested RV provides higher maneuverability and less overloading during descent phase.
